Does evolution violate the second law of thermodynamics?
The second law of thermodynamics states “that total entropy (a measure of useful energy) in a closed system will not decrease.” This doesn’t apply to evolution for one good reason. The earth is not a closed system. The earth is always receiving energy from the sun. All it takes for evolution to work is reproduction, heritable variation, and selection. These happen all the time with no problem. (Berra, Evolution and the Myth of Creationism p. 126-127) (Shermer, Why People Believe Weird Things p. 149-150). Please see here.
