Evolution

Micro evolution occurs, but macro evolution does not. Is this true?

Micro evolution is often described as small changes within a species, such as a population of a certain bird species growing longer beaks than normal. Macro evolution is described as large scale changes above the species level. Speciation has been observed many times, so we have seen macro evolution in action. Since evolution is the accumulation of many small changes over long periods of time, and there is no reason why many small changes cannot add up to larger changes, we can deduce that macro evolution occurs. Since human life spans are so short, we cannot see such large changes directly. Luckily we have the fossil record, genetic evidence, and more which shows that macro evolution has occurred. Please see here.

Micro and macro evolution can be described using the following analogy. Taking one step can be considered micro evolution. It will not get you far. But if you take another step, then another, and another, you can end up in an entirely different place than where you started from.
