The Cambrian Explosion shows new creatures appearing suddenly, with no ancestors. There are no Precambrian fossils. How could this occur?
There was no sudden explosion of life at the start of the Cambrian. Fossils of Precambrian creatures have been found. Evidence of multicellar life dating back 590 millions years has been found in China. One reason why Precambrian fossils are rare is because they were soft bodied. They had no hard body parts that could easily fossilize. Also, the Precambrian rocks are so old many have been destroyed due to weathering and the earth’s cycle of subduction, where rocks are pushed back into the mantle and melted.
Many of the animals that lived at the beginning of the Cambrian are totally alien to us. What appeared where most modern phyla. Birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians did not appear in the Cambrian. The fish that existed are totally different than those that exist today.
The Cambrian explosion lasted anywhere between five and forty million years, plenty of time for evolution to take place. Please see here, here and here for some examples of this.
